Andreas Umland

Political scientist

German political scientist. Born in 1967. He studied at the University of Leipzig.

1999 — PhD in historical sciences, Free University of Berlin (Friedrich Meinecke Institute, FMI).

2008 — PhD in political science, University of Cambridge.

1997–1999 — Visiting Fellow, Hoover Institution, USA.

1999–2001 — Lecturer at the Robert Bosch Foundation, Department of International Relations of the Ural State University.

2002–2003 — Lecturer — Department of Political Science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

2001–2002 — Fritz Thyssen Fellow (Weatherhead Center for International Affairs). Intern at the Davies Centre for Russian-Eurasian Studies, Harvard University.

January to December 2004 — temporary lecturer in Russian and East European studies at St. Antony’s College, Oxford.

2005–2008 — DAAD lecturer at Kyiv Shevchenko University.

2008–2010 — Research Fellow (Akademischer Rat), Department of Central and Eastern European Modern History, Eichstett Catholic University, Germany.

Since 2004 Umland is founder and chief editor of the book series “Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics and Society” (Ibidem Edition).

Since 2015 — Senior Researcher at the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation in Kiev.

Lives in Kiev and Hanover.
