1987–1995 — lecturer at Novosibirsk State University.

Since 1996 he has been teaching at the European University at St. Petersburg.

Since 2011 — Professor of Comparative Political Science at the European University at St. Petersburg.

2007–2010 — editor-in-chief of the Russian Electoral Observation magazine.

2007–2011 he was the director of the Interregional Electoral Support Network (IESP/IRENA).

2008–2011 — Project Director at the “Helix” Centre for the Promotion of Democracy and Human Rights.

Lives in St. Petersburg.
