In 1981 he graduated from the Moscow State Historical Archives Institute. Candidate (1985) and Doctor (2007) of historical sciences. Leading Researcher, Institute of World History, Russian Academy of Sciences. From 2017 — guest lecturer at the Higher School of Economics.
