Specialist in Russian Literature and Cultural History of XVIII early XIX centuries in European Context. Russian Literature and Ideology. Cultural History of Emotions. Late Soviet and Post Soviet Literature.
He has published widely, including “Feeding the Two-headed Eagle. Russian Literature and State ideology in the last third of the XVIII – first third of the XIX centuries” (Moscow 2001, 2-ed. 2004), and “Where the pheasant sits ... Essays of recent years” (Moscow, 2003), as well as more than 200 other books and articles in Russian, English, German, French, Italian and Finnish.
He lives in Oxford and Moscow.
