1977 – present — Has been working at the Department of Economic and Social Geography of Russia, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University.
Candidate (1990) and Doctor (2003) of geographical sciences.

1998–2004: Associate Professor, since 2005 — Professor, Department of Economic and Social Geography of Russia, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University.

Since 2003 — Director of the Regional Program of the Independent Institute for Social Policy.

Lives in Moscow.
