Vladimir Gimpelson

Economist

1979 — Degree in Automated Systems of Information Processing and Management Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute.

1986 — Candidate of Sciences (PhD) in Economics.

In 1994–1997, he worked as a consultant in a number of OECD projects. In 1998–1999, he was a Professor at the Economics Department, University of Tokyo, Japan. The current work is focused on issues of political economy of labour market adjustment, on employment and informal employment (both in Russia).

Currently serving as Director of the Centre for Labour Market Studies at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. He is also Professor of the Faculty of Economics of the HSE, senior Researcher at the Institute of Sociology, Russian Academy of Sciences and employee at the Institute for Labour Studies (IZA, Bonn, Germany).

He has published over one hundred publications, including the monograph “The Russian Labour Market: Between Transition and Turmoil” (co-authored with D. Lippoldt, published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers in 2001.
