American political scientist, historian. Born in 1964.

1986 — B.A.Hons. (first class) Oxford University, Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

1988 — M.A. Harvard University, Department of Government.

1995 — Ph.D. Harvard University, Department of Government.

Since 2004 — Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The author of six books, the last of which — “The Return: Russia’s Journey from Gorbachev to Medvedev” (The Free Press, 2011) was printed in Russian in 2012: “История России. От Горбачева до Путина и Медведева” (Moscow: Eksmo, 2012).

Since 2010 — Member, International Advisory Board, HSE, Moscow.
