Arseny Roginsky

Historian

Born in 1946.

1968 — Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Tartu.

1975–1981 — Roginsky was an editor of samizdat collections of historical works, Memory (5 issues), being published abroad from 1978.

At numerous points in his career Roginsky was persecuted by the KGB. In 1981–1985, he was detained on trumped-up charges. He was pardoned in 1992.

1988–1989 — One of the founders of the “Memorial” Society and from 1998 until his death acted as chairman.

The author of articles and publications devoted to the history of Russia at the end of the XIX–XX centuries.
